Huggy Modifications!

FIRST...

I AM MAKING NO REPRESENTATIONS AS TO WHETHER YOU WILL SUCCEED. THIS WORKED ON MY CAR AND IF YOU SCREW YOURS UP I WILL BEAR NO CONSEQUENCES WHATSOEVER!!!!

Now that that's out of the way...

May, 2000: The bottomless airbox! First and foremost: To the guys from CARR Subaru who might find this: I don't have this mod on my car permanently yet!!!!! The work shown was done on a spare airbox bottom, because I have an extended warranty and I'm not exactly itching to void it out!!!

And with that out of the way, CREDIT TO KEV! He came up with this idea, I just followed his lead and took snapshots.

I did run with this thing for a quick spin around the block (5 miles) and it PURRS. You get a deep, authoritative growl under acceleration, but next to nothing when idling or coasting. Supposedly this mod will, courtesy of better airflow (ever noticed that on the air filter on a stock config the air all goes through that one dirty "spot" while the rest of the thing is spotless?), provide at least a couple of additional HP as well as a bump in fuel economy. I'm going to test the latter theory soon...

Meet the bottomless airbox!

Notice that I left the corners and grommet plug not only intact but somewhat braced. There will be more pictures to illustrate later, but the basic idea is that you still want this thing to provide a stable and secure mount for the top half of the airbox and for the filter that is sandwiched in between. The clips that hold the top and bottom of the box together aren't shown in this pic, but that's only because I wanted them off for a clear photo. They should be kept and used.

April, 2000: The '97 Security upgrade in a '95 LSi. I GOT THE DAMN THING TO WORK!!! WOOO HOOO!!! It only took a year, cripes... :-)
